4-Hydroxycyclohexanone is a reactive compound that contains a hydroxy group and a hydroxyl group. In addition, 4-hydroxycyclohexanone reacts with hydrochloric acid to form an ester and water. The reaction mechanism for this process is nucleophilic attack by the hydroxyl group on the carbonyl carbon atom in hydroxycyclohexanone.
