1-Hydrazinoisoquinoline is a pressor agent that binds to the α- and β-adrenergic receptors in the body. It also inhibits the enzyme aldehyde oxidase, which reduces nitrite to nitric oxide. This drug has been shown to increase blood pressure by acting on the carotid artery, which may be due to its ability to inhibit noradrenaline release from nerve endings. 1-Hydrazinoisoquinoline is metabolized through glucuronidation, forming a glucuronide conjugate with glutathione, which is excreted in urine.
