1-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-2-imidazolidinone is a chemical compound that is structurally related to 2-aminoethanol. It is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. 1-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-2-imidazolidinone has been shown to be a substrate for matrix metalloproteinases, which are enzymes that break down the extracellular matrix of cells. This chemical may be used as an alternative to other hydroxyl groups for the preparation of films and coatings, due to its high stability at high temperatures and resistance to amines. 1-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-2-imidazolidinone may also be used as a reagent in analytical methods such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, or particle size analysis.
