Descrizione:(R)-2-Hydroxy-4-phenylbutanoic acid is an ester compound that is produced by the conversion of (S)-malic acid to its enantiomer. This reaction is catalyzed by a phosphoric acid esterase. The kinetic, immobilization, and transfer mechanisms have been characterized. The solubilized form of the enzyme was found to be more active than the crystalline form. Enzyme inhibitors such as hydrogen chloride and hydrochloric acid were also investigated in order to determine their effect on the reaction rate and product distribution. A structural formula for (R)-2-Hydroxy-4-phenylbutanoic acid was determined using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, revealing a dinucleotide phosphate as a possible intermediate in the synthesis pathway.
