Descrizione:3-(Hydroxymethyl)cyclopentanone is a bifunctional molecule that can be used as a catalyst. It is able to catalyze the hydration of ketones and esters, which is an important reaction for the synthesis of carbocyclic nucleosides. 3-(Hydroxymethyl)cyclopentanone has been shown to react with dilithium (LiH), forming a covalent bond through its two functional groups. The long-chain nature of this molecule makes it ideal for use in hydrophobic environments such as those found in tumor cells. 3-(Hydroxymethyl)cyclopentanone also exhibits dichroism, which is caused by the different absorption of light when passing through a crystalline substance. This property can be utilized to study the stereoisomeric structure of molecules with similar chemical properties such as 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF).
