Hydrindantin is a potent and selective inhibitor of the enzyme lysyl oxidase. It prevents the formation of collagen cross-links that are necessary for the structural integrity of the tumor's extracellular matrix. Hydrindantin has been shown to be effective in inhibiting tumor growth, with an optimum concentration of 1 μM. It was also found to have no adverse effects on healthy tissues, which may be due to its ability to inhibit only one specific type of collagen cross-link.
