Hexachlorodibenzodioxin is a chemical that has been classified as a probable human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. The chronic effects of hexachlorodibenzodioxin are not well understood, but it has been shown to have short-term effects on body weight and IGF-I levels in Sprague-Dawley rats. Hexachlorodibenzodioxin is also an inducer of cancer in humans and animals. It has been used as a standard for analytical methods in clinical responses, growth factors, and cancer.
