The drug also regulates cell signaling pathways, such as those related to energy metabolism. 7b-Hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one is synthesized from 7a-hydroxycholesterol in humans, but not other mammals. It is metabolized via oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes or conjugation with glucuronic acid.
