Descrizione:2-Hydroxydibenzofuran is a hydroxylated derivative of dibenzofuran, which has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity. 2-Hydroxydibenzofuran binds to the fatty acid binding site of the enzyme phospholipase A2, inhibiting the release of arachidonic acid and subsequent production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. The hydroxyl group on 2-hydroxydibenzofuran may also serve as a hydrogen bond donor, which may synergize with other inhibitors. Biological studies have shown that 2-hydroxydibenzofuran has potent inhibitory activity against both phospholipase A2 and lipoxygenase. The mechanism of inhibition is not yet known but it is thought that it involves an electron transfer from the hydroxyl group to the active site in the enzyme.
