Hydroquinidine HCl is a sodium carbonate salt that is used to treat congestive heart disease. It has been shown to inhibit the release of norepinephrine from the nerve endings in the atria of the heart, which slows down the heart rate and improves blood flow. Hydroquinidine HCl has also been shown to have long-term efficacy for the treatment of congestive heart failure, but does not have any effect on monoamine neurotransmitters. The chemical structure of hydroquinidine is similar to dihydroquinidine, so it can be synthesized by reacting malonic acid with potassium hydroxide in a reaction solution containing sodium carbonate.
