Descrizione:Hederagonic acid is a saponin that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. This compound has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of leukemia cells and to induce apoptosis in these cells. Hederagonic acid has also been found to have anti-leukemic activity in mice. The safety profile of hederagenin is still being investigated, but it appears to be safe when administered at doses of up to 250mg/kg body weight. Hederagenin may act as a chemopreventive agent by suppressing tumor development and inhibiting cell growth. Hederagenin also inhibits the expression of genes that are involved in chronic pulmonary conditions such as emphysema and bronchitis. In addition, hederagenin has been shown to stimulate oxygenated hemoglobin synthesis in erythrocytes from patients with chronic pulmonary disease, which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory properties.
