It reacts with epoxides to form perfluorinated products and fatty acids, which are volatile and have a high boiling point. Heptafluorobutyryl chloride also reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to form perflouroacetic acid and hydrogen bonds with fatty acids, making it suitable for use in food markets.
