The adsorption kinetics of 2-(hydroxymethyl)-12-crown 4-ether (2HMC) has been measured in a kinetic study. The cavity of the photophysical cell was filled with chloride gas and irradiated with UV light. The adsorption rate increased as the concentration of chloride gas increased, demonstrating that 2HMC is a strong adsorbent for chlorine gas. This experiment also showed that catalytic effect is possible when 2HMC is irradiated with UV light and metal ions are present.
