4-Hydroxyphthalonitrile is a compound that has been found in human urine. It is a derivative of naphthol and a cyclic peptide with a hydroxy group. The compound is unsymmetrical, with two molecules of 4-hydroxyphthalonitrile linked by a disulfide bond. The structure was determined by UV spectroscopy and it was found to be more efficient at killing cancer cells than other cancer drugs. 4-Hydroxyphthalonitrile is also an efficient method for the preparation of optical samples.
