N-hydroxy-1-[(4-methoxyphenyl)methyl]-1H-indole-6-carboxamide (NFIC) is a synthetic analogue of the natural compound indole. NFIC binds to the human estrogen receptor alpha and inhibits the binding of estrogen to this receptor. NFIC has been shown to be effective in treating cancer tissues, and it can be detected in biological samples by antibody detection methods. NFIC is also an antimicrobial agent that exhibits activity against gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and Clostridium perfringens. NFIC is used as a model system for studying the binding of small molecules to cells and proteins. A hybridoma cell line has been generated using mouse myeloma cells and an antibody against NFIC. This cell line produces antibodies with high values that have inhibitory effects on various autoimmune diseases when tested in animal models.
