1-Iodohexadecane is a nanomaterial that has been synthesized in the form of microspheres with a diameter of 100 nm. It has a reactive hydroxy group that can undergo reactions with other compounds, such as iodoacetic acid. This reaction produces an iodoacetate which can be used as a pharmacological agent to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. 1-Iodohexadecane also has low energy, which means that it does not require high temperatures for its synthesis and can be made using low power lasers. The size and shape of 1-Iodohexadecane particles are determined by FTIR spectroscopy. The hydrocarbon chains on 1-Iodohexadecane are long, making it hydrophobic and lipophobic, meaning that it is insoluble in water and organic solvents. 1-Iodohexadecane has been shown to have high stability against oxidation and is resistant to ultraviolet light.
