• Descrizione: Ibutilide is an antiarrhythmic drug that belongs to the class of drugs known as class III antiarrhythmics. It has a number of pharmacological effects in the heart, including slowing conduction through the AV node, increasing refractoriness of atrial and ventricular tissue, and blocking re-entrant circuits. Ibutilide has been shown to be effective in preventing or treating atrial fibrillation (AF), a type of arrhythmia, by acting on both the atria and ventricles. Ibutilide's use for AF is limited by its narrow therapeutic window, which can lead to toxic side effects such as torsades de pointes. The drug is also used for other types of arrhythmias such as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT).
