8-Iodoquinoline is a zwitterion that can exist in either the cationic or anionic form. It is formed by the reaction of boronic esters with primary amines. 8-Iodoquinoline has been shown to be a ligand for magnesium and other metal ions, which may be due to its bifunctional nature. 8-Iodoquinoline also reacts with sulfamic acid to form an amine, which is then reacted with an aldehyde to form a cross-coupling product. The kinetic data for this reaction shows that the rate of this reaction is dependent on the concentration of both reactants.
