It has been shown to inhibit the absorption of drugs with low bioavailability, such as digoxin and phenytoin. 3-Isomangostin hydrate also has anticancer activity and has been shown to inhibit chronic inflammation in women. The 2D NMR technique was used to study the structure of mangosteen and its components (xanthones) to identify possible natural ligands for human adenosine deaminase.
