Descrizione:2-Iodo-5-hydroxybenzoic acid, also called iodoquinol, is a chemical compound that is used as an antiseptic and disinfectant. It is produced by the reaction of vinyl alcohol with iodine in the presence of a catalytic amount of potassium hydroxide. Iodoquinol is highly hydrophobic and insoluble in water. The mechanism of action of iodoquinol is not well understood but it has been shown to react with an enzyme or enzyme substrate, resulting in inhibition of the reaction system.
