Isoastilbin is a natural compound isolated from the plant Etoac. It has been shown to have hypoglycemic effects and inhibit the growth of bowel disease cells in vitro. Isoastilbin also inhibits the production of growth factor-β1 by macrophages and suppresses the expression of toll-like receptor 4, which may be related to its anti-inflammatory activity. Isoastilbin has been shown to prevent oxidative injury in vitro, as well as acute toxicities in vivo. Isoastilbin is synthesized from caffeic acids and dextran sulfate.
