It has been shown to have inhibitory properties on liver cells, and may be related to body mass index. Linoleic acid is a precursor for gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which functions as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Linoleyl alcohol is a metabolite of linoleic acid and has been shown to inhibit the production of antimicrobial peptides, such as cathelicidin and beta-defensin. The inhibition of this peptide may be responsible for the observed reduction in inflammatory responses and infections.
