Descrizione:Lomifylline is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor that has been used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, with some success. It works by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase, which breaks down cyclic AMP and cAMP. This leads to increased levels of cyclic AMP and cAMP, which promote cell proliferation. Lomifylline has been shown to be effective in treating bowel diseases such as Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome. Lomifylline is also used to reconstitute recombinant proteins that are insoluble. The drug does not work well for the treatment of Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease because it does not enter the brain well enough to inhibit the enzyme production there.
