Lumogallion is a fluorescent probe that can be used for the detection of malonic acid in plant physiology. Malonic acid is an intermediate metabolite in the Krebs cycle and is vital for plants to grow. Lumogallion binds to cell nuclei, which emit green fluorescence when illuminated with blue light. The fluorescence intensity is proportional to the concentration of malonic acid in the sample solution. Lumogallion has been shown to have a matrix effect on light emission, which can be compensated by using a calibration curve.
