Methyl Nonafluorobutyl Ether (MFBE) is a fluorinated ether that has a basic structure. It is an intermediate in the reaction of glycol ethers with hydrogen fluoride. MFBE is chemically stable and does not react with water or other solvents, but it can be decomposed by reacting with boron nitride and film-forming polymers. MFBE is used in chemical analysis as a carrier gas for mass spectroscopy and as a solvent for organic compounds. It also has high water permeability, which makes it useful for sample preparation when using liquid chromatography.
