5-Methyl-2-trifluoromethylfuran-3-carboxylic acid (MTFCA) is an antiseptic that has been found to be effective against a wide variety of fungi, including Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans, and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. The compound is also efficient at low doses. MTFCA has been used as a disinfectant in the environment because it does not have any significant toxic effects on aquatic life. It is commonly used as an ingredient in paint strippers and cleaning products.
