4-Methyl-5-nitro-1H-pyrazole (MPN) is a synthetic compound that belongs to the pyrazole family of compounds. MPN has antimicrobial properties and can be used to treat infections caused by bacteria, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In addition, MPN has been shown to have antiplasmodial activity against the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. MPN is a competitive inhibitor of bacterial connective peptide synthesis, which may contribute to its antimicrobial activity. It also inhibits the growth of other microbes, including fungi and yeasts. This compound has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in vitro and in vivo.
