Methyl-3-bromo-4-hydroxybenzoate is an organic compound with the chemical formula CHBrO. It is a bifunctional molecule that is used in asymmetric synthesis as a chiral auxiliary. In the reaction, Methyl-3-bromo-4-hydroxybenzoate reacts with an aldehyde to produce a diastereomeric mixture of benzaldehydes. The resulting mixture can be separated by fractional crystallization, yielding pure products for further use in synthesis. X-ray crystallographic studies have shown that this molecule has a centroid at C1 and C2, and functional groups at C3 and C4.
