Descrizione:2-Methyl-4,5-dihydrofuran-3-thiol is a thiamin precursor that is found in food (especially meat) as well as in the human body. It is metabolized to form cysteine, which can be converted to other compounds. This compound has been shown to be an intermediate in the metabolism of thiamin and sulfur. The labeling of 2-methyl-4,5-dihydrofuran-3-thiol with carbon 14 has been used as a model system for studying the pathways of sulfur metabolism. The volatiles emitted from this compound are also used as a source for gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis.
