Descrizione:5-Methylisoxazole is an organic compound that can be found in small quantities in a number of natural products, such as bananas and coffee beans, but it is most often used as a synthetic intermediate. The compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells by inducing apoptosis. 5-Methylisoxazole has also been found to be an effective antibacterial agent against staphylococcus and leukemia cells. The mechanism of action appears to involve the formation of a covalent bond with the phosphorous acid group on the bacterial cell wall and may involve a reaction with amide groups on proteins in the cell membrane.
5-Methylisoxazole is activated by thermal isomerization, which involves breaking a C-C bond between two carbon atoms. This process generates heat and leads to the release of ethyl alcohol (C2H5OH) or ethylene glycol (HOCH2CH2OH).
