It has been shown to have thermal expansion properties and is also used in process optimization and malonic acid production. 1-Methoxy-2-propyl acetate is a byproduct of glycol ethers, which are produced by the reaction between propylene and ethylene glycol. It has been shown to be toxic to rats when administered at high doses, but not at low doses. This compound was also found to be mutagenic in bacteria, causing DNA damage.
