Descrizione:N-Methylmethanamine sulfate is a fluorescent probe that was developed to measure nitrite ion in water. The probe is a sesquiterpene lactone that absorbs light at wavelengths of around 420 nm and emits fluorescence at wavelengths of around 550 nm. The probe has been shown to detect the presence of nitrite ions in wastewater treatment systems by measuring the changes in fluorescence intensity. N-Methylmethanamine sulfate binds with nitrogen atoms, which can react with nitrite ions to form nitrosamines, an important class of carcinogenic compounds. This binding reaction also inhibits the activity of enzymes such as aminopeptidases and dipeptidases that are responsible for degrading amino acids such as methionine and tryptophan.
