Descrizione:6-Methylheptanoic acid is a fatty acid that is used in the manufacture of calcium stearate, which is an ingredient in lubricants. It also has been used to reduce the viscosity of crude oil. 6-Methylheptanoic acid has been shown to be active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and some strains of Mycobacterium avium complex, with a terminal half-life of approximately 1 day. This compound binds to calcium carbonate and water molecules, forming calcium 6-methylheptanoate and water. 6-Methylheptanoic acid can also be found as a component of polymyxin B1 (colistin), which is an antibiotic that inhibits growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit in the bacterial cell wall.
