It has been shown to be effective in both aerobic and anaerobic environments. 3-Methyl-4-nitro-N-acetylbenzeneamine is a racemic mixture, consisting of two isomers that are easily separated by chromatography. The primary mechanism for degradation of this chemical is acetylation, which converts it into acetic acid and methyl acetate. 3-Methyl-4-nitro-N-acetylbenzeneamine can also be degraded by aerobic soil bacteria with the help of fatty acids.
