Descrizione

4-(Methylthiol)-1-(isothiocyanato)butane (MTIC) is a potent inducer of phase II enzymes. It induces the production of glutathione reductase, which catalyzes the conversion of oxidized glutathione back to reduced glutathione. MTIC also has been shown to have potent anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo. MTIC has been shown to induce apoptosis in HL-60 cells. The mechanism of this apoptotic effect has been found to be due to MTIC's ability to bind to DNA and inhibit transcriptional activation. MTIC also inhibits the activities of certain p450 enzymes, such as CYP2B6, that are important for drug metabolism and detoxification.
