Descrizione:Modafinil is a wakefulness-promoting agent that increases the activity of orexin, a neurotransmitter that regulates sleep and wakefulness. Modafinil sulfone is a prodrug that is metabolized to modafinil in the liver. The pharmacokinetics of Modafinil sulfone have been studied in healthy volunteers with doses of 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1200 mg (N=12). The study showed that modafinil sulfone has a linear pharmacokinetic profile and does not accumulate in the body over time. The elimination half-life for modafinil sulfone was found to be about 4 hours at all dose levels. This drug has been shown to be safe and effective when taken with other drugs such as carbamazepine, ziprasidone, or other substances such as alcohol or grapefruit juice.
