• Descrizione: Methyl 3-chlorosalicylate is a chemical intermediate that is used to manufacture other chemicals. It is produced by reacting sodium hypochlorite with sulfur, and the reaction time can be controlled by changing the ratio of reactants. This product also reacts with benzoic acid in a neutralization reaction, which produces carbon monoxide gas as a byproduct. Methyl 3-chlorosalicylate has been shown to react with fluorescein under acidic conditions and form an orange compound called fluorescamine.
