Descrizione:3-Methyl-1,3-butanediol is a polycarboxylic acid that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It reacts with the hydroxyl group of the cell wall to form a cationic surfactant that prevents bacteria from growing. 3-Methyl-1,3-butanediol has been shown to be effective against gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. This chemical also inhibits gram-negative bacterial growth by reacting with the nitrogen atoms in their cell walls. 3-Methyl-1,3-butanediol is used in products such as Melaleuca alternifolia essential oil, which has demonstrated efficacy against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
