4-Methoxycinnamaldehyde is a naturally occurring organic compound that is found in plants such as agastache, cinnamon and eugenol. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties against LPS-stimulated Raw264.7 cells and cancer cells. This compound inhibits the transcription-polymerase chain reaction of rat cardiomyocytes by binding to their mitochondrial membrane potential. 4-Methoxycinnamaldehyde can be used as a food additive for its antioxidative properties, which may help prevent cancer or inflammatory diseases. The mechanism of action of this compound involves acylation reactions with lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). This reaction results in the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that cause oxidative stress and lead to cell death.
