4-(a-Methylbenzyl)resorcinol (4MBR) is a molecule that was synthesized to inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme responsible for melanin production. The compound is stable in vitro and has been shown to inhibit melanogenesis in cell cultures. 4MBR has also been shown to have synergistic interactions with antimicrobial peptides such as LL-37 or polymyxin B. It is soluble in water and can be used as an ingredient in nanoemulsions or other topical formulations.
