It inhibits tumor cell proliferation by causing DNA damage and inhibiting the synthesis of RNA, proteins, and lipids. 4-Methoxyphenyl hydrazine HCl also stimulates the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which may contribute to its antitumor activity. This compound has been shown to be a monomeric dye with high fluorescent intensity when dissolved in an organic solvent. It reacts with sodium carbonate to form an orange precipitate that can be used in gravimetric analysis.
