Descrizione:3-(Methylthio)hex-1-yl acetate is a colorless liquid with a disagreeable odor. It is used as an industrial solvent in the production of butyric acid, hexanol, and propylene glycol. 3-(Methylthio)hex-1-yl acetate can be found in the air as a result of burning organic materials such as wood or natural gas. It can also be found in cigarette smoke and has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to sulfur compounds that are essential for protein synthesis. The chemical reacts with oxygen to produce hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which is toxic to cells because it inhibits cellular respiration.
