Descrizione:2-Mercaptothiazole is a thione that has shown antitumour activity against cervical cancer and cancer cells. 2-Mercaptothiazole binds to the sulphydryl groups of cysteine in proteins, thereby preventing the formation of disulphide bridges. The protein synthesis rate is reduced, leading to cell death by apoptosis. 2-Mercaptothiazole has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to the non-reduced form of mercaptopropionylated hemoproteins (thiols) in the plasma membrane. This binding inhibits the growth of tumour cells and leads to their death through apoptosis.
