The compound has been shown to be able to prevent the formation of polymers by preventing the cross-linking of carboxyl groups. 3-(Methylthio)thiophene can also be used as a pesticide and can be prepared as a sample for nmr spectroscopy. 3-(Methylthio)thiophene has been shown to have a number of functional properties and it is theorized that this may be due to its alkyl substituents.
