Descrizione:2-Methyl-2,4-pentanediol (2MPD) is a glycol ether that has been used extensively as a solvent in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. 2MPD can be used to study protein structure and dynamics using X-ray crystallography. It also has some use in tissue culture and cell biology. 2MPD reacts with picolinic acid to form the product 2-methyl-3,4-hexanediol. This reaction is catalyzed by the enzyme hexokinase and proceeds via an intramolecular hydrogen transfer from the hydroxyl group of 2MPD to the protonated amine group on picolinic acid. This reaction mechanism can be described by nuclear magnetic resonance data collected at high field strengths.
