N-Methyl-2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide (MTFA) is a reactive chemical and may be harmful to mammalian tissue. It is used as a pharmaceutical intermediate in the production of other drugs. MTFA has been shown to inhibit the growth of corynebacterium glutamicum and colonic microflora. This agent also has been found to have an effect on urine samples. MTFA is metabolized by the liver into 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE) and methyl trifluoromethyl ether (MTME). The TFE can be excreted through urine or exhaled, while MTME is excreted through the lungs. The MTFA molecule consists of two parts: a methyl group and a trifluoromethyl group. This molecule has been shown to cause cancer in animal models and has been used as an analytical method for morphology studies with glycosid
