Descrizione:Methyl 4-methylsalicylate is a colorless liquid that has no odor. It can be synthesized by reacting ethyl bromoacetate with formaldehyde and anhydrous sodium acetate in the presence of hydrochloric acid. This product is used as an intermediate for various organic compounds, such as esters, ethers, amides, and nitriles. Methyl 4-methylsalicylate has been used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, perfumes, pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals. Methyl 4-methylsalicylate is toxic to opportunistic fungal species but does not affect bacteria. The chemical reacts with DNA to form adducts that inhibit linear polymerase chain reactions (PCR). This inhibits DNA replication and transcription of DNA into RNA. The inhibition of protein synthesis by methyl 4-methylsalicylate also results in cell death.
