• Descrizione: 2-Mercapto-5-methoxybenzoxazole is a bioisostere of the oxime group with substituents that are bioisosteric to those found in pirodavir. It has been shown to inhibit rhinovirus infection in human cells by binding to the capsid and preventing it from attaching to the cell membrane. 2-Mercapto-5-methoxybenzoxazole has also been shown to have antiviral activity against pleconaril resistant strains of human rhinovirus type 2 and x-ray resistant strains of human rhinovirus type 1B. The compound binds tightly to the active site of the enzyme, which prevents the formation of an intermediate that is essential for viral replication. It also inhibits methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium perfringens, although is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Myc
