6-Methylchromanone is a phenolic amine that has been shown to be cytotoxic against human leukemia cells. It inhibits the production of IL-8, a proinflammatory cytokine, by human k562 cells. 6-Methylchromanone also has anti-diabetic properties and can inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The uptake of 6-methylchromanone into the bacterial cell wall is mediated by the presence of a chromatographic system and its ability to bind to neutrophils. The genus of bacteria determines whether 6-methylchromanone will be active or not.
