It has been shown to reduce the formation of malonic acid, which can be toxic to the heart and cause congestive heart failure. 3-Methylglutaric acid also inhibits oxidation catalysts and increases the production of energy in cells by providing electrons. The kinetic data for 3-methylglutaric acid have been determined using a gas chromatography technique on a high-temperature conversion reactor at a pH of 7.0 with a concentration of 0.1 M potassium phosphate buffer (pH 7) and a temperature of 70°C. 3-Methylglutaric acid has been shown to inhibit monoclonal antibody cationic polymerization, which may be due to its reactive nature and its ability to donate hydrogen ions or electrons.
